Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)

This program is a bit different than the rest of sponsorship programs, therefore, my clients have a lot of questions about its process and eligibility requirements. This short note will help you understand the process and how to assess your eligibility.

Process:

  1. Assess your eligibility whether you are eligible to become a sponsor.
  2. If you are eligible to sponsors, then yo have to submit an “interest to sponsor” via an online form. This form opens only once a year and fills up quickly in a few minutes.
  3. If you were ready and submitted your interest on time, then you will be put on a pool of potential sponsors.
  4. The government randomly select and then invite a specific number of sponsors to apply.
  5. If you got lucky to be invited, then you will receive an email with the application package and a deadline to submit.
  6. Since you cant tell whether you will be invited or not, therefore, you can not prepare the forms in advance.

Eligibility

You must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. You are at least 18 years old
  2. You live in Canada
  3. You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Indian (under the Indian Act)
  4. You have sufficient fund, you can also get a co-signer to meet this criteria.
  5. You must commit to financially supporting your sponsored parent or grandparent for 20 years from the day of their permanent residence.
  6. Most importantly, you must also be selected to apply for sponsoring your parents/grand parents.
