This is a multiple-entry temporary resident visa issued to parents and grandparents of a Canadian permanent resident or citizen. Currently, a Super visa is issued for ten years, multiple entries and with an authorized stay of up to 5 years on each entry. The 5-year authorized stay can be further extended from inside Canada by an additional 2 years at a time.

Who is eligible for a Super Visa and what documents are required for the super visa application?

The super visa offers parents and grandparents the possibility of visiting Canada for up to 5 years on each entry to Canada. An applicant is eligible for a super visa if they meet the requirements for temporary residence in Canada as a visitor and provide all additional required documentation.

Specific to Parents and Grandparents Super Visa:

  1. A letter of invitation from your child or grandchild residing in Canada as a permanent resident or Canadian citizen. Include the total count of family members/financial dependents.
  2. Financial support documents (one of the following):
    • A recent copy of the Notice of Assessment (NOA),
    • Recent T4 or T1,
    • Original letter of employment (title, job description and salary/hourly wage),
    • If self-employed, a letter from your accountant confirming your annual income,
    • If unemployed, proof of income from other sources (pension, investment, etc.),
  3. Evidence of the parent and grandparent relationship to the Canadian citizen or PR you wish to visit (birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or others),
  4. Proof of private medical insurance for a minimum of 1 year with a Canadian insurance company, provide a copy of the insurance policy certificate.
