Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)
This program is a bit different than the rest of sponsorship programs, therefore, my clients have a lot of questions about its process and eligibility requirements. This short note will help you understand the process and how to assess your eligibility.
Process:
- Assess your eligibility whether you are eligible to become a sponsor.
- If you are eligible to sponsors, then yo have to submit an “interest to sponsor” via an online form. This form opens only once a year and fills up quickly in a few minutes.
- If you were ready and submitted your interest on time, then you will be put on a pool of potential sponsors.
- The government randomly select and then invite a specific number of sponsors to apply.
- If you got lucky to be invited, then you will receive an email with the application package and a deadline to submit.
- Since you cant tell whether you will be invited or not, therefore, you can not prepare the forms in advance.
Eligibility
You must meet all of the following requirements:
- You are at least 18 years old
- You live in Canada
- You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Indian (under the Indian Act)
- You have sufficient fund, you can also get a co-signer to meet this criteria.
- You must commit to financially supporting your sponsored parent or grandparent for 20 years from the day of their permanent residence.
- Most importantly, you must also be selected to apply for sponsoring your parents/grand parents.
